We welcome you to join us at
CANADIAN REFORMED CHURCH
Fellowship is a member congregation of a federation of churches called the “Federation of Canadian & American Reformed Churches”. We are still relatively new North America, the first Canadian Reformed church being instituted in 1950 and the first American Reformed church in 1955. Yet we have a long history that goes back to Europe and indeed, we confess to the beginning of time!
As a protestant church we trace our roots back to the great reformation of the 16th century. At that time God raised up men such as Martin Luther, John Calvin, and John Knox to return the church to the obedience of the Word of God. Our immediate roots are found in the Netherlands. There, as well as elsewhere throughout Europe the great reformation became firmly established leading to a vigorous and faithful reformed church life.
After World War II many people immigrated to Canada and the US. The Canadian Reformed churches came into being with the first Canadian Reformed congragation being instituted on April 16, 1950 in Coaldale Alberta. Today our federation comprises over 50 congragations and some 15,000 members.
The Canadian Reformed churches are not isolationists but confess one holy catholic (or universal) church. This holy church is not confined to one particular place or to certain group of people, but is dispersed throughout the entire world. However, it is united with heart and will, in one and the same Spirit, by the power of faith. This universal church can be found wherever there is an assembly of the true Christian believers who expect their entire salvation in Jesus Christ.
We seek to be united with all those who confess our God and Savior on the basis of God’s Word and in conformity with our reformed confessions. Called to be “the light and salt of the earth”, (Matthew 5: 13, 14) we wish to honor Jesus Christ, the King and Head of the Church, who rules us by His Word and Spirit and unites us in the unity of a true faith. Our federation has very close ties with other churches on a number of continents. We call these other churches our “sister churches”.
Federative unity with the United Reformed Churches of North America (URCNA) is currently being pursued, these churches having been recognized as faithful and true churches. We also have sister church relationships with the following other federations:
- Free Reformed Churches in Australia
- Presbyterian Church in Korea
- Reformed Churches in the Netherlands (Liberated)
- Free Church of Scotland
- Free Reformed Churches of South Africa
- Reformed Churches in Brazil
- Reformed Church in the United States
- Orthodox Presbyterian Church
We also have ongoing contact with the Free Reformed Churches of North America, and the Orthodox Christian Reformed Church.
A FAITHFUL REFORMED CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST
We are an active congregation, committed to sharing the joy of the Gospel to those in Burlington who do not know Jesus. In addition to meeting twice each Sunday for worship, we also join together in Bible studies, social gatherings and various ministries.
